Geoparks in Spain

The Spanish Forum and Committee of Geoparks

In the countries with geoparks, both UNESCO and the Global Geoparks Network recommend the constitutions of a National Geopark Committee and/or Forum. In our case, The Spanish Geopark Committee, following the UNESCO recommendations, include national representatives like the Spanish National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO, el Instituto Geológico y Minero de España (the Geological Survey of Spain), the autonomous communities that have Geoparks in their territories, and also the geoparks. It acts like the National Committee of the International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme.

Moreover, all the members of the GLOBAL GEOPARKS NETWORK (GGN) in Spain, constitute the Spanish Forum of Geoparks, which at the same time is attached to the Spanish Committee of Geoparks as a stable working group. At the Forum, it is coordinated the works that the geoparks are doing at a national level related to the Global Geoparks Network and the European Geoparks Network. The Forum is also in charge of the dissemination and the accurate information of the new Geopark projects in Spain.
